It is my firm belief that there is something watchable about nearly every film. Which makes me very hesitant to give out ratings. However, some people REALLY like film ratings. Therefore I’ve decided to adopt a fairly simple scale.
- Good: The movie is good. Could also be “sincerely good.”
- Definitely “Good”: The movie is “good.” For whatever reason it won’t let me just put “good” in the tag list so I put the word definitely in front of it. It’s not a technically accomplished film, it might be embarrassing for some refined folk to admit they enjoy it, but the film is entertaining and fun. Could also be “ironically good.”
- Great: A movie that it has been at least one year since I’ve seen it and it still resonates as important to me. These are going to be rare.
- Mediocre: I probably won’t waste a lot of energy writing reviews of mediocre films unless this site takes off and I can somehow justify it time wise. I guess a good way to define a mediocre film is that I didn’t even feel like writing about it. This could be read as “someone let me see this movie for free, or someone I cared about asked me to review it, so I did, but otherwise I probably wouldn’t have.”
- Disliked: I didn’t like this movie. I don’t like to call things “bad” just because I didn’t like them, usually, so I avoid it here. This could be read as”Sincerely disliked.”
- “Bad”: A technically accomplished, well directed, competently written film that I just hated with such a passion that “disliked” was too soft to express it.
